In late 2023 I joined the award winning NGO SkatePal with a small group of volunteers in the West Bank, helping out with running local skateboarding lessons for Palestinian youth. After a month, I headed to Hebron to continue Arabic studies and learn about life under Israeli occupation, but the uncertainty in the region after the events of October 7th lead me and other volunteers to cross over into Jordan. I was blessed to have met, worked and skated with some of the most honestly inspiring individuals I’ve ever had the fortune of meeting. The people of Palestine are kind, generous, welcoming, despite the severity of military occupation. My almost 2 months in Palestine were extremely formative and opened my eyes to severe injustice I never thought I’d witness with my own eyes.
